Europcar AU Rental Terms

Rental Contract
All rentals are subject to the terms and conditions of the rental agreement.

Pay Methods
An initial, non-refundable deposit will be secured at the time of booking confirmation. Accepted credit cards are Visa and Mastercard (transaction fee of 1.75% applies). Please note that this deposit amount is deducted from your total and the balance is payable directly to Europcar on arrival. Any changes that are made at the counter do not affect this initial deposit amount and it remains non-refundable.

Your deposit payable upon booking confirmation can be made using Visa or Mastercard. The remainder of your rental will be paid upon the collection of your vehicle and can be made using all major credit cards including: American Express, Visa & Mastercard, Diners Card.

Credit/Debit cards
All renters must have a valid credit card and must be presented on collection.
Europcar Australia accepts all recognised major credit cards including Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Diners Card. The credit card used for payment of the rental must be in the renter’s name. The renter’s signature must appear on the back of the card. Credit Card charges will incur a surcharge on all credit and debit cards of 1.65%.
If a debit card is presented the client will be charged a deposit of $330, this deposit will be refunded once the vehicle is returned.

Security Bond
Customers wishing to rent an Audi will be asked for a security deposit equivalent to the Damage Liability Fee, for example: Standard DLF then $5500 will be preauthorised and Reduced DLF $990 will be pre authorised.
The exception to this will be the IXAR, PDAR & IXMD vehicles.

Conditions

1. Change of vehicle
Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Europcar reserve the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification and at no extra cost. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to a refund.

In the event that Europcar is unable to provide a vehicle, no compensation will be provided

2. Vehicle category
Vehicles cannot be requested by make or model, only by vehicle category

Rental Days
At Europcar Australia our days are based on 24-hour period. A grace period of 29 minutes is offered and then a full day’s rate will be charged after this time.

Kilometre Restrictions
Australia
• Rate of the day Product – conditions will apply and will be advised upon making your reservation.
• Additional kms are charged at 27.5 cents per km.

One Way Rentals
Prestige Vehicles- are not available for one way rentals. Special requests will be considered for long term rental only.

Fuel
Vehicle is rented with a full tank of fuel and has to be returned with a full tank of fuel. If the vehicle is not full of fuel upon return refuelling charges apply.

Maps
Street directories can be provided at no additional charge. A replacement fee of $50AUD will be charged if the street directory is not returned.

Equipment

GPS Units
Europcar Australia can provide portable GPS Units which can be fitted to any passenger or commercial vehicle. Available on request only and must be pre-booked in all major cities at airports and downtown locations.

GPS units are $11 incl GST per day (Maximum charge of $110) and may be taken one way with a $25 drop off fee.
The damage liability fee of the GPS unit is $550 (includes GST, excludes additional fees & surcharges).

Baby Seats

Europcar Australia can provide reversible baby seats for all passenger vehicles. They are suitable for children aged 0 to 4 years. Baby & Booster seats are required to be pre-booked to ensure supply upon arrival and are on a request basis ONLY. Cost is $7.70 incl GST per day or a maximum charge of $77.00 inc GST capped at 10 days.
Europcar Australia does not supply baby capsules however can supply booster seats (foam) if required in Australia.

New rules for using child restraints and booster seats
From 9 November 2009 there will be some changes to Victoria’s road safety rules. These changes include new rules for the use of child restraints and booster seats in vehicles and will help parents and carers ensure their children are in the safest child restraint or booster seat for their age.

The new rules for using child restraints and booster seats
Starting 9 November 2009, children under seven years of age must wear a child restraint or booster seat when traveling in a car for improved safety.

The type of restraint will depend on the age of the child as follows:
• Children aged under six months must wear an approved, properly fastened and adjusted, rear facing child restraint
• Children aged between six months and under four years must wear an approved, properly fastened and adjusted, rear facing child restraint OR a forward facing child restraint with an in-built harness
• Children aged between four years and under seven must wear an approved, properly fastened and adjusted, forward facing child restraint with an in-built harness OR an approved booster seat which is properly positioned and fastened.

There are also new laws for where children can sit in vehicles.
• If a car has two or more rows of seats, then children under four years must not travel in the front seat
• If all seats, other than the front seats, are being used by children under seven years, children aged between four and six years (inclusive) may travel in the front seat, provided they use an approved restraint or booster seat.

Driving Restrictions
AUSTRALIA
3.1 Subject to clause 3.3 you must only use the vehicle on a surface which is sealed.
3.2 Subject to clause 3.3 you may use the Vehicle on a gazetted road, if it is a 4WD (IFDR/FFAR/PFAR).
3.3 The following roads are only allowed to be driven in an FFAR and PFAR. This is subject to road conditions at time of rental.
a) The Cadabia – Ningaloo Road
b) Jim Jim Falls Road
It is compulsory to hire a second spare wheel for travel on these roads:
Second spare wheel is $15 per day incl GST. Capped at 14 days $210
c) on the Gibb River Road.
d) on the Cape Leveque Road and to Windjana Gorge
e) on the Larapinta and Namitjira Drives, commonly known as the “Mereenie Loop”

l) on the Gunbarrel Highway

q) on the Strzelecki Track

s) On the Warburton Route, Tanami Track
t) On the Kalumbru Road, Cape Leveque
u) On the Canning Stock Route
v) On Tracks to Lost City (Litchfield NP)

x) above the snow line from 1 June until 30 October each year (unless snow coverage is purchased at the commencement of the Rental period)

And in no circumstances
i) on beaches or through streams, dams, rivers, or flood waters
ii) on flood prone roads or any roadway where the Police or any other Government authority have issued a warning or caution.
iii) no vehicles are permitted on Fraser Island.

Travel on Ferry Services and Trains in Australia

• Travel on Ferry Services in Australia is permitted, for example, to Kangaroo Island but will not be covered by insurance whilst on the ferry.
• Travel on Trains is permitted

Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee (VRRF)

VRRF is a mandatory fee charged per day to partially recover the Vehicle Registration costs. VRRF is charged at $6.05 (AUD) per day.

Administration Fee
An Administration fee of 3.2% will be charged on all rental charges for mainland Australia and 3% for Tasmania. All additional extras paid direct to Europcar on arrival such as One Way Fees, Baby Seat, Fuel, GPS Unit & Additional Liability coverage’s etc will incur the admin fee.

Drivers Licenses
• Driver’s license must be valid for the period of rental and must be in English.
• Probationary or restricted licences are not acceptable nor are photocopies.
• Europcar Australia accepts all international drivers’ licences when accompanied with a license of origin.
• For identification purposes, we also require clients to provide their credit card details.
• Photocopies of credit cards are not acceptable as ID.

Age Surcharge and Restrictions
A customer must be a minimum of 21 years of age to be eligible to rent a car from Europcar Australia and must have a full licence (not probationary or restricted). However, there are restrictions for renters under the age of 25.

• 21-24yr olds must pay Age Surcharge of $27.50 (AUD) per day in Australia.
• Drivers Aged 21-22 cannot reduce their Damage Liability, however they can purchase WWI
• Drivers Aged 21 – 24 can only rent ECMR, CDAR, IDAR, SDAR, IFDR
• A minimum age of 25 yrs is required for the following vehicles FDAR, FWAR, PVAR, IVAR, 4WD (FFAR/PFAR) and prestige vehicles.

Additional Drivers
When collecting the vehicle each driver must be listed on the Rental Agreement and they must present their drivers licence at time of collection. An additional driver is charged at $3.30 (AUD) per day, per driver and is capped at 14 days ($46.20 per additional driver).

Greenfleet Program
Transport is Australia’s fastest growing source of green house gas emissions.
Europcar is striving to become a greener car company by promoting environment awareness in the car rental industry and amongst consumers.
For every rental vehicle added to our fleet we will offset the carbon emissions by planting 17 trees through our partner Greenfleet.
We ask our customers to make a $3 donation to Greenfleet every time they rent with us.
(This amount is deductible)

Vehicle Return and Replacement
• You must return your vehicle to specified Europcar station, on the date and by the time shown at the commencement of the rental period.
• If you return the vehicle to a location other than that was shown on rental agreement at the commencement of the rental period, a ‘drop fee’ may apply. If a ‘drop fee’ applies you must pay it at the end of the rental period
• If you return the vehicle to any place other than a Europcar location, or if the Europcar location is not open, you will be deemed by Europcar to have returned the Vehicle when Europcar takes possession of the Vehicle keys. The rental charges will continue and you will be responsible for the vehicle until such time as Europcar deem the vehicle to have been returned. You must pay all additional rental charges.
• Europcar may request the immediate return of the vehicle, or Europcar may repossess the vehicle without notice. You must also pay Europcar any cost it incurs in the repossession of the vehicle as well as all costs and charges under the rental agreement.
• Europcar reserves the right to not replace the vehicle if the vehicle or third party property are damaged before the rental period expires.

Maintenance and Safety
Europcar Australia constantly strives to provide vehicles of the highest quality in order to keep our customers totally satisfied. To help us to do so, it is important you look after your vehicle properly from the moment you pick it up to the time you drop it off.
If you detect any damage to the vehicle you are hiring and it has not been recorded on the Rental Agreement, pleas notify Europcar staff before you depart with the vehicle to avoid disputes upon return.

Damage Liability Fee (DLF)
When hiring a vehicle the Renter is liable for damage to the vehicle and third party property.
In the event of an accident or third party property, a Damage Liability Fee (DLF) will be charged. This fee is charged regardless of who is at fault or the amount of damage. You can reduce the (DLF) by paying a supplement fee. Damage Liability Fee will incur all applicable taxes such as premium surcharge and administration fee.

Breach of these Terms & Conditions
Europcar shall have the right to terminate the Rental Agreement at any time and take immediate possession of the Vehicle or an Authorised Driver breach these terms and conditions. The complete rental agreement and terms and conditions are available for viewing on Europcar's website under renters guide.
Breaches of this Rental Agreement will result in you paying for:
a. all costs to rectify the Vehicle to its original condition or replacement of the Vehicle; and/or
b. loss of rental revenue to Europcar; and/or
c. damage to third party property being Your full responsibility; and/or
d. all reasonable costs for towing, storage and recovery of the vehicle.
You will be entitled to terminate this Rental Agreement if Europcar breaches its terms and conditions

Premium Location Fee (PLS)

All airport pickups are subject to a Premium Location Surcharge and the percentage fee varies by airport.
PLS is charged on all items with the exception of Greenfleet, GST and Tolls in Melbourne.

Remote Location Delivery/Collection Fee
Exmouth incurs a delivery fee to Learmonth airport of $33 incl GST and collection fee of $33 incl GST. Total $66.

Tolls
Renters are responsible for all toll charges throughout Australia.

Snow Cover

• Snow coverage is compulsory for vehicles travelling above the snow line.
• The cost is at $11.00 inc GST (AUD) per day for all vehicle classes excluding FFAR/PFAR.
• For an FFAR/PFAR vehicle class, the cost is at $35.00 inc GST (AUD) per day.
• Chains can be supplied & fitted by the client however chain damage is not covered. Roof racks can be supplied & fitted by the client however roof damage is not covered.

24 Hour Roadside Assistance

• Europcar provide a 24 hour emergency road side assistance service.
• Roadside assistance is free for all mechanical damage defects not resulting from Renter misuse of the vehicle.
• We charge for all non-mechanical defects such as lost keys, keys locked in the vehicle, flat battery due to lights being left on etc. Costs charged can be obtained by contacting Customer Service.

Glossary of Rental Agreement Terms
“Administration Fee” means this covers the cost incurred by Europcar for the processing of the Rental Agreement documentation and charges.

“Authorised Driver” means:
• An additional driver who is listed on and signs Part A (of the Rental Agreement),
• Your employer or a fellow employee, if either are engaged in activities that are directly related to Your business duties and the Vehicle has been hired using a Corporate Account.

“Corporate Account” means a company, association or group who has met the criteria of Europcar Australia/New Zealand to establish either a Credit Facility, Direct payment account or any other contracted rate for contracted rates and conditions.

“Damage Liability Fee” or “DLF” means Your contribution to the Owner in the event of an accident or incident involving the Vehicle, subject to specified conditions.

“Europcar” means the person or entity detailed above the words “The Owner” on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) or where applicable, an independent Europcar System licensee.

“LDW” (Loss Damage Waiver/Reduction) means the fee to reduce the Damage Liability Fee and, if You accept LDW on Part A (of the Rental Agreement), You agree to pay the LDW fee.

“Rental Period” means the period commencing at the time and on the date shown on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) & pending at the time and on the date that You return (or are regarded as returning) the Vehicle to Europcar.

“Substitute Vehicle Insurance” means a policy of motor vehicle insurance held by You or an Authorised Driver which covers You or the Authorised Driver while You or they use the Vehicle as a substitute for the vehicle insured under that policy.

“Snow Coverage” means the fee to allow the Vehicle to be driven in the areas defined in clause 3.2f (of the Rental Agreement).

“TOL” relates to prepaid electronic tolls and, if You accept TOL on Part A (of the Rental Agreement), You agree to pay the daily toll fee.

“POM” (Peace of Mind) means the combination of LDW & WWI

“Premium Location Surcharge”(PLS) means the percentage fee on Part A (of the Rental Agreement) charged to You on all charges incurred by You on the Rental Agreement.

“Commercial Vehicle” means any vehicle used for carrying goods

“Passenger Vehicle” means any vehicle other than a four wheel drive that is designed to carry more than 3 people including the driver

“4WD” (four wheel drive) means any vehicle whose class code contains F as the second letter. The vehicle class appears on Part A (of the Rental Agreement).

“Gazetted Road” means a sealed or unsealed road regularly maintained by a local, state or government body or council

“Vehicle” means the Vehicle described on Part A of the Rental Agreement (or any substitute Vehicle), and includes its parts, components and accessories

“VRRF” means Vehicle Registration Recovery Fee charged to partially recover the Vehicle registration costs.

“WWI” means the protection for Wheels, Windscreen & Iridescences, however it excludes negligence or abuse by You or an Authorised Driver and, if You accept WWI on Part A (of the Rental Agreement), You agree to pay the daily LDW fee.

“You” or “Your” refers to:
• the person(s) with whom the Rental Agreement is made and whose details are stated under the words (“The Renter”) on Part A (of the Rental Agreement.)
• any authorised driver
• the corporate account whose name appears as “Account Name” on Part A (of the Rental Agreement)

Upon receipt of your confirmation, please check your details carefully and notify us immediately if there are any incorrect details, as it may not be possible to make changes at a later date.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Amendments
Please note that some suppliers treat an amendment as a new booking and apply the rate current at the time the amendment is made to recalculate the entire booking amount (not just the days changed). If the rental period is increased, an additional deposit may be required. If the rental period is shortened which results in a reduction of the rental charges, the deposit amount will remain unchanged, and the difference between the original and revised deposit is forfeited (it cannot be used towards remaining rental charges). To request a change to a confirmed booking, please use the alterations request link on your confirmation. Any alterations are subject to availability and the approval of the supplier. In addition to the alteration policy of the supplier stated in their terms, the following charges will apply:
Car rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 25.00
To add or remove extras to/from a confirmed booking: 10.00
Motorhome rental alterations (all charges stated in local currency):
To change dates or times that result in a recalculation of rental rates, or to change vehicles or locations: 75.00
To add or remove extras to/from confirmed booking: 20.00
The alteration fee will not be charged if your alteration request is not possible.

Vehicle Capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.



Europcar AU Insurance

Compulsory Insurance (Included in Rates):
Damage Liability Fee (DLF) - Liability is $3,300 for ECMR, CDAR, IDAR, IXAR, SDAR, FDAR, FWAR,PVAR and $5,500 for PFAR, IVAR, LDAR & FFAR/FFMR. 

Fair Wear & Tear (FWT) - Classified very minor damage that is deemed reasonable during the rental of a vehicle. Damage Charges will not apply: Includes chips up to 2mm radius(no dent). Scratches up to 10mm length and 1 mm width (no dent) or any scratches than can be polished out.   

Optional Insurance:
Loss Damage Waiver Insurance (LDW)
This insurance costs $ 24 per day for cars, all wheel drive & minibuses, it will reduces liability to $ 330 for  cars, minibues and all wheel  drive.
For PFAR, FFAR, FFMR and  LDAR, IVAR, this insurance costs $ 29 per day, and will reduces liability to $ 990 for FFMR  LDAR and FFAR, IVAR.

Windscreen Headlights Tyres Insurance (WHT)
This insurance cost $8.8 per day for cars, all wheel drive & minibuses, and $ 14.30 for LDAR,IVAR,  WHT is Not available to purchase on FFAR/FFMR & PFAR.

Total Protection Package Insurance (TPP)

This insurance costs $29 for cars, all wheel drive & minibuses, $39 for LDAR and IVAR, TPP is NOT available to purchase on FFAR/FFMR & PFAR, and it will reduces liability to $330 for cars, all wheel drive and minibuses, $990 for IVAR and LDAR. Special OFFER Package including LDW & WHT Combined.  

Snow Cover
- Snow coverage is compulsory for vehicles travelling above the snow line.
- The cost is at $11.00 inc GST (AUD) per day for all vehicle classes excluding FFAR/PFAR.
- For an FFAR/PFAR vehicle class, the cost is at $35.00 inc GST (AUD) per day.
- Chains can be supplied & fitted by the client however chain damage is not covered. Roof racks can be supplied & fitted by the client however roof damage is not covered.
